LICHEN / SLIME MOULD
Although not common, slime and lichen can be an unsightly addition to your lawn.
Slime moulds vary in colour and appear after prolonged rainfall and high humidity. They are slimy and can be washed away or once dry they turn powdery and can be removed with a broom or lawn rake. Slime moulds do not damage the lawn as they grow over the grass rather than attack it.
Lichens are greyish flat leaf like growths, soft and slimy when wet and crisp when dry. They do not harm the grass but indicate poor grass growth and impoverished soil, hence they are often found in shady areas. They do not harm the grass and can be raked away.
